Rooshan Aziz - CEO

Growing up with dyslexia meant I struggled at school and was heavily reliant on the after-school academic support ecosystem u2014 I always felt strongly about its state. That is why last year when the pandemic hit and education for millions was impacted, Taha Ahmed and I got together to start Maqsad. We initially started with a small pilot to help kids with math but quickly realized the scale of the challenges faced by students. From then on, Maqsads mission became to make high-quality education accessible to 100 million students in Pakistan.nWe are taking the first step towards building a platform that enables Pakistani students to achieve their Maqsad. Moreover, blown away by the talent we have seen so far, we are excited to build this in Pakistans thriving tech ecosystem.

Ever since I can remember, I have been passionate about education. I have always felt strongly about the education system of Pakistan, and STEM education in general. At my time at The Citizens Foundation I tried to incorporate innovative teaching methods in my classes and worked in student counselling and support, and realized that I wanted to continue working in education. nI understand that a subject like math can induce a lot of anxiety for students, especially at college level where abstraction takes over almost all the concepts. In my role as the Academics Manager for Mathematics at Maqsad, I try to make math less scary for students. Using dynamic visuals, concrete examples, and real-world applications, I hope to make content that is engaging and easy to understand.nMy biggest achievement so far has been visiting Eulers grave. In my free time, I like to go on long, incoherent rants about math and math education, eat chocolate cake, and make messy, glittery art projects with my nephews and nieces.

I have been passionate about art and science ever since I was a kid. Even while doing my BA from Towson University in Baltimore, I tutored math to both middle school and university students. nAt Maqsad, I found an opportunity to explore both fields. As an Illustrator, I am able to transform math and science concepts into something students can actually relate to and visualize for themselves. nIn my free time, I work on my own comics and binge watch all things animated.
