CESSD

Citizen Engagement for Social Service Delivery (CESSD) is the project of the Governments of Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) being supported by the Australian Government through Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). Its goal is to improve the quality and access to basic social ser¬vices (primary education, basic health, and water supply) in KP Province, particularly for women and girls. CESSD is administered and coordinated by the Planning and Development Department, KP and supervised by a provincial Project Steering Committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary, KP.

CESSD initiated its activities in April 2001 and is currently working in 11 districts of the province including Abbotabad, Charsadda, Chitral, Haripur, Kohat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, and Swabi. In the five health districts (Charsadda, Kohat, Kohistan, Nowshera, and Peshawar), CESSD works with the Department of Health at district level and local communities to facilitate and oversee the improvement of the delivery of basic health services, using selected standards, by forming and strengthening the Primary Care Management Committees (PCMCs). In addition to its district level interventions, CESSD supports the concerned provincial departments to incorporate community managed social service delivery approaches into their operational policies
