IT / Network Support Officer

The IT / Network Support Officer at SZABIST - Islamabad Campus plays a vital role in maintaining the organization's network infrastructure and ensuring seamless IT operations. This position provides hands-on support for network troubleshooting, hardware installation, and ongoing maintenance. The role demands a strong technical aptitude in handling on-site technical tasks and fieldwork effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to IT services. This position requires at least two years of experience in network support, with a focus on implementing and managing various network components such as routing, switching, and security protocols. The officer is responsible for managing routine network cabling and installation activities, configuring dynamic routing protocols, maintaining VPN and firewall functionalities, and monitoring network performance through tools like PRTG and Solar Winds. By actively contributing to network security and system efficiency, this role supports the overall campus IT infrastructure's stability and reliability without direct management of a team. This position calls for proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to respond swiftly to technical issues, ensuring a robust and secure network environment across the institution.

• Install, configure, and maintain network hardware including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN devices to establish reliable and secure network connectivity.
• Perform network troubleshooting and resolve issues related to routing, switching, VLANs, and dynamic routing protocols to ensure uninterrupted network service.
• Conduct regular hardware maintenance and hardware upgrades to improve operational performance and extend device lifespan.
• Install and manage network cabling infrastructure to support efficient data transmission within the campus environment.
• Configure and manage firewall rules and VPN solutions, including OpenVPN, to maintain secure remote and internal connections.
• Monitor network performance and system health using tools such as PRTG and Solar Winds to proactively identify and resolve potential bottlenecks or failures.
• Implement network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, intrusions, and other cyber threats.
• Handle on-site technical tasks and fieldwork effectively, providing direct support for infrastructure issues and user connectivity problems.
• Collaborate with IT colleagues and external vendors to coordinate installation, maintenance, and upgrades of network systems and related hardware.
• Document network configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures to ensure clear records and knowledge sharing.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry best practices to recommend improvements and adopt innovative solutions.
• Manage day-to-day network operations across the campus/organization.
• Install, configure, and maintain switches, routers, firewalls, and Wi-Fi access points.
• Monitor network performance using NMS tools (e.g., PRTG, Solar Winds) and resolve issues proactively.
• Troubleshoot wired and wireless connectivity issues including coverage, bandwidth, and device onboarding.
• Implement and maintain VLANs, firewall rules, ACLs, and Wi-Fi security.
• Maintain network documentation, including IP schemes, diagrams, configurations, and incident logs.
• Ensure passive infrastructure (cabling, patch panels, fiber links) remains functional.
• Provide technical support during events, seminars, and video conferencing setups.
• Assist with inventory management of network devices and accessories.
• Perform other network-related tasks as assigned.
