In this position, you will apply your advanced skills in industry-standard design software to produce precise flat sketches, mood boards, and print manipulations that communicate your vision clearly to various internal teams and external partners. You lead the technical aspects of design by creating comprehensive Tech Packs and troubleshooting fit and production issues throughout the sampling process. Your strategic insight guides collection development by analyzing and interpreting current fashion trends to craft commercially viable designs that support a cohesive seasonal story. Your strong operational focus supports efficient sample management and production planning, helping SUMMAT maintain its reputation for timely and quality releases in a highly competitive market.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed and accurate technical design packages (Tech Packs) including garment specifications, construction notes, and measurements.
- Create original fashion designs and collections using advanced computer-aided design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, with experience in 3D design software as an asset.
- Select and source appropriate fabrics by evaluating performance, cost, and aesthetic qualities to meet design intent and production requirements.
- Manage design workflow independently, ensuring all critical path deadlines and production milestones are met without compromising quality.
- Collaborate effectively with merchandising, buying, and sourcing teams to integrate design decisions with business goals, including cost constraints and production schedules.
- Conduct sample reviews and fittings to evaluate prototypes, troubleshoot fit and construction issues, and provide clear guidance to pattern makers and factories.
- Monitor and control material inventory to maintain efficient supply levels while minimizing waste and reducing delays in the production process.
- Analyze fashion trends with a focus on commercial viability and relevance to the brands target market to inform design direction and collection coherence.
- Contribute to the development of cohesive seasonal collections by aligning colors, fabrics, and styles to tell a unified brand story.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of garment construction techniques and textile characteristics to enhance product quality and manufacturability.
