Fashion Design Intern

The Fashion Design Intern position at SUMMAT offers an immersive eight-week management trainee program ideal for aspiring fashion designers eager to pursue a career in luxury fashion. This hands-on internship provides deep exposure to the complete design and product development process. Interns collaborate with experienced designers, rotate through various departments, and independently create two full fashion collections from concept through presentation. The program equips interns with skills in trend forecasting, concept development, fabric sourcing, pattern making, sampling, production planning, and quality control. Throughout the internship, candidates do not manage a team but actively participate in teamwork, communication, and project milestones within the design environment. Successful completion may lead to consideration for a permanent position on the SUMMAT Design Team. This opportunity is particularly suitable for recent graduates or current students from fashion institutes who have a strong creative drive, understanding of garment construction, and digital design skills.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed trend and competitor research to identify relevant market shifts and innovative design opportunities.
- Develop original design concepts that align with the SUMMAT brand aesthetic, ensuring creativity and coherence throughout collections.
- Create mood boards, detailed fashion sketches, digital illustrations, and technical flats to visually communicate design ideas.
- Source suitable fabrics, trims, accessories, and embellishments critical to collection development and presentation.
- Assist in sample garment development, coordinate fit sessions, and provide input for pattern adjustments.
- Collaborate with merchandising and production teams to ensure alignment between design intent and product feasibility.
- Maintain organized and accurate design documentation including tech packs, color palettes, and collection presentations.
- Present weekly updates and progress reports to the Design Team, incorporating feedback and meeting project deadlines.
- Complete two independent fashion collections demonstrating technical ability, creativity, and growth through the full design cycle.
- Uphold a strong work ethic, proactive learning attitude, and effective communication skills within a fast-paced luxury fashion environment.
