Software Engineer II - Backend candidates will join a skilled team focused on developing and scaling highly distributed backend systems that support critical services like user requests and payment processing. Working with cutting-edge technologies and alongside top talent, engineers will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing Careem’s core platform with an emphasis on quality and scalability.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain distributed backend systems that meet high standards of functionality, scalability, and reliability to support a rapidly expanding business.
- Ensure the quality, maintainability, and readability of code, accompanied by comprehensive testing of features and systems.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product owners, and designers to address complex challenges across the platform.
- Act as an integral member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team dedicated to delivering high-quality software.
- Continuously document and improve engineering practices to enhance system robustness and scalability.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Between 2 to 4 years of professional experience in software engineering.
- Strong grasp of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proven ability to solve complex problems and write clean, maintainable code with a genuine passion for software development.
- Effective communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical challenges and solutions.
- Comfortable working with loosely defined problems and adapting to rapidly changing requirements.
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn new technologies and contribute to products operating at massive scale and impact.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to excellence aligned with Careem’s core values of being bold, focused, agile, and collaborative.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with clean code principles and design patterns.
- Knowledge of test-driven development methodologies.
