We are looking for a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team and help enhance software quality for a complex, distributed B2B SaaS HR and payroll platform. In this role, you will work closely with product owners from the early stages of development, take full ownership of automation coverage across frontend, backend, and microservices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our testing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain automated end-to-end test suites covering user interfaces, APIs, and third-party integrations. Promote shift-left testing by actively participating in sprint planning, story refinement, and design reviews to identify potential quality risks early in the development cycle. Manage regression, exploratory, and production validation testing for critical workflows.
Create type-safe, schema-validated test code using TypeScript and Zod to minimize false positives and improve maintainability. Build and maintain E2E and component tests with Playwright or Cypress, ensuring comprehensive coverage of key user flows and edge cases. Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to deliver fast and reliable feedback to development teams.
Design and execute API testing strategies using tools like Postman and REST-assured. Test event-driven and asynchronous workflows across microservices. Identify gaps in test coverage, prioritize based on risk, and lead efforts to resolve them pragmatically. Collaborate with the QA team to define shared standards, tooling, and documentation.
Track, triage, and manage bugs using platforms such as Jira and Xray. Mentor engineers to improve testability and increase confidence in releases.
Required Qualifications
At least 4 years of hands-on experience in test automation within production software environments. Proficiency in TypeScript with the ability to write clean, extensible, and maintainable test code. Strong experience using Playwright or Cypress for UI and API end-to-end testing. Familiarity with Zod or similar runtime schema validation libraries.
Deep understanding of the software testing life cycle (STLC) and testing architectures such as the Page Object Model, fixtures, factories, and data-driven testing. Expertise in API testing with Postman and/or REST-assured, including RESTful and event-driven interfaces. Practical experience with bug tracking and test management tools like Jira and Xray.
Experience testing microservice architectures and service isolation strategies. Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams, actively engaging in sprint planning, refinement, and design reviews alongside product owners and developers. Skilled in testing third-party integrations and designing robust strategies for external dependencies.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, capable of producing clear, reproducible, and well-prioritized bug reports. Experience mentoring or coaching engineers on testing best practices and quality ownership. Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor, with the ability to incorporate AI thoughtfully to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality.
Detail-oriented and proactive, thriving in fast-paced, high-ownership environments. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience in payroll, fintech, or other compliance-heavy industries. Knowledge of contract testing concepts and related tools. Exposure to security and privacy testing, including GDPR and SOC 2 readiness.
Familiarity with performance and load testing tools such as k6, JMeter, or Gatling. Experience with observability and production monitoring tools like Datadog, Grafana, or Sentry. Comfortable working in distributed, asynchronous teams across multiple time zones. Knowledge of Jenkins configuration and pipeline authoring.
This position offers a unique opportunity to shape quality engineering practices on a global scale within a sophisticated SaaS environment, driving innovation and continuous improvement.
