The Senior Pharmacist will maintain records and supplies of medicine and consumables, dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners, and provide information to patients about medications and their use. The Senior Pharmacist may advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.

Responsibilities

Overall Objectives (Scope)

· Remain available during duty hours and perform assigned responsibilities as per the approved duty schedule.

· Adhere to the Code of Conduct, policies, and prescribed dress code.

· Ensure the smooth functioning of the assigned pharmacy in accordance with policies and Good Pharmacy Practices.

· Support pharmacy operations and perform duties assigned by the Line Manager.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities

· Report administratively and technically to the Country Pharmacist.

· Ensure the continuous availability of essential medicines and medical supplies at the assigned health facility while maintaining the required buffer stock.

· Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to medicine storage, controlled drugs, cold chain management, stock arrangement, housekeeping, and expiry monitoring.

· Prepare routine medicine requisitions based on consumption patterns and approved stock levels, and promptly report stock shortages, near-expiry items, or other inventory concerns to the supervisor.

· Verify medicines and medical supplies received against approved purchase orders and delivery documents, reporting any discrepancies to the supervisor.

· Support the distribution and transfer of medicines and medical supplies between facilities when required, ensuring appropriate documentation.

· Prepare and submit monthly pharmacy reports, including stock status, medicine consumption, tracer medicine availability, and stock-out reports.

· Conduct routine physical inventory counts and reconcile stock records with inventory registers.

· Conduct regular pharmacy visits to monitor medicine storage conditions, stock management practices, dispensing procedures, and documentation in accordance with MERF standards.

· Monitor expiry dates and stock movement, and recommend appropriate actions to minimize wastage and prevent stock-outs.

· Maintain accurate pharmacy records and ensure proper filing of all pharmacy-related documents.

· Support Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) activities, including healthcare waste management (HCWM), safe injection practices, and other pharmacy-related quality standards.

· Ensure the availability of pharmacy stationery and standard recording tools required for routine pharmacy operations.

· Perform any other pharmacy-related duties assigned by the Line Manager.
