The Senior BIM Modeller – Electrical is responsible for leading the development, coordination, and delivery of high-quality BIM models and detailed shop drawings for substation and electrical infrastructure projects. The role ensures all deliverables comply with project requirements, BIM standards (ISO 19650), and utility regulations, while driving coordination, constructability, and data accuracy across all project phases. Working within the BIM & CAD Cell, the modeller collaborates closely with the BIM Manager, Coordinators, and site teams to ensure constructability, interdisciplinary coordination, and compliance with local authority regulations (DEWA, SEWA, TAQA, TRANSCO, ADDC/ADWEA as applicable) as well as international standards and best practices (IEC, IEEE, NFPA, and relevant utility specifications).

Responsibilities

Strategic:

  • Support implementation of BIM strategies and standards aligned with ISO 19650 and project-specific BEPs
  • Contribute to development of discipline-specific modelling standards, templates, and content libraries for substation projects.
  • Align BIM deliverables with client requirements (EIR/AIR) and asset lifecycle management objectives.
  • Promote continuous improvement, automation, and digital innovation within BIM workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with local authority regulations (DEWA, SEWA, TAQA, TRANSCO, ADDC/ADWEA) and international codes (IEC, IEEE, NFPA).

    Operational :

  • Develop and maintain highly detailed, accurate, and LOD-compliant 3D BIM models in accordance with project specifications, applicable standards, and approved BIM Execution Plans (BEP).
  • Author and continuously update discipline-specific BIM models, based on design inputs, design development stages, and coordinated information from all stakeholders.
  • Generate fully coordinated 2D deliverables, including general arrangement drawings, shop drawings, detailed sections, and schedules directly from BIM models to support construction and installation activities.
  • Perform comprehensive clash detection and interference analysis using federated models, proactively identifying, tracking, and supporting the resolution of multidisciplinary conflicts.
  • Ensure all models are fully coordinated, spatially accurate, and technically compliant, with rigorous validation prior to internal reviews and formal submissions.
  • Incorporate and manage design changes, RFIs, site instructions, and as-built inputs, ensuring models remain current and reflective of actual project conditions.
  • Ensure strict adherence to project BIM standards, BEP requirements, and organizational BIM protocols, maintaining consistency across all deliverables.
  • Implement and enforce Common Data Environment (CDE) protocols, including standardized file naming, revision control, metadata management, and document classification.
  • Support the preparation of model-based quantity take-offs, BOQs, and data extraction, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and submission of federated BIM models, coordinated drawing packages, and technical reports.
  • Conduct systematic QA/QC checks on models and drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with project standards.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, BIM coordinators, and project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design and construction workflows.
  • Actively participate in BIM coordination and review meetings, effectively implementing feedback, resolutions, and agreed actions within defined timelines.
  • Manage model versions, revisions, and change tracking, ensuring full traceability and proper documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilize BIM authoring and coordination tools (Revit, Navisworks, and related platforms) at an advanced level to optimize productivity and maintain high delivery standards.

    People Management:
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (Electrical, Civil, MEP).
  •  Follow instructions from BIM Coordinator and Engineer for model development.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding model changes and coordination issues.

    Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of substation systems (HV/MV/LV) including transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, protection panels, cable routing, and earthing/grounding systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical design principles and single line diagrams (SLD), schematics, and layout drawings
  •  Working knowledge of local utility standards and authority requirements (DEWA, SEWA, TAQA, TRANSCO, ADDC/ADWEA).
  • Understanding of international standards and codes (IEC, IEEE, NFPA).
  • Knowledge of BIM standards and processes, including ISO 19650, BIM Execution Plans (BEP), and Common Data Environment (CDE) workflows.
  • Awareness of Level of Development (LOD) requirements and model coordination practices.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing and site installation practices for substations.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and clearance requirements in high-voltage environments.
  • Proficiency in BIM and CAD software such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and related tools.
  • Ability to develop and manage accurate, coordinated BIM models for substation electrical systems.
  • Skilled in clash detection, model coordination, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Strong capability in producing detailed shop drawings, layouts, and sections from BIM models.
  • Competence in model-based quantity take-offs and material scheduling.
  •  Effective use of Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms (Autodesk Forma).
  • Attention to detail with strong quality control and data accuracy skills.
  •  Good communication and coordination skills for working with engineers, site teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.

    Education and Certifications
  • Degree/Diploma in relevant engineering field.
  •  Autodesk professional certification / BIM professional Certification preferred

    Experience Required
  • Minimum 8 years in BIM including minimum 2 years of on-site coordination experience.
