Job Description: Radiologist

Reports to: Medical Superintendent

Job Summary:

The Radiologist is responsible for overseeing the Radiological Unit, ensuring the provision of high-quality radiological services through administrative oversight and technical expertise.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: MBBS and FCPS in Radiology (or equivalent qualification recognized by PMDC)
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in radiology, with proven expertise in diagnostic imaging techniques such as X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI, and ultrasound.
  • Certification: Valid medical license to practice as a Radiologist.

Duties / Responsibilities:

1. Curative / Clinical:

  • Ensure appropriate utilization of X-Ray films while maintaining strict budgetary control.
  • Oversee accurate and up-to-date maintenance of accounts by staff.
  • Provide instructions to wards regarding patient preparation for radiological investigations.
  • Supervise and conduct specialized techniques and procedures as required by the Specialist in charge.
  • Supervise radiographers, providing guidance in technical matters to minimize film wastage and patient inconvenience.
  • Conduct patient screening when available.
  • Prepare reports for all X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI films, and ultrasound examinations conducted on the same day or by the following morning.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), particularly in Infection Control, Waste Management, and radiation protection.
  • Maintain vigilance regarding contrast media safety and reactions.
  • Review referrals from Medical Officers (MOs)/other Specialists and lower facilities to establish diagnoses.
  • Perform procedures for investigative purposes such as fluoroscopy.
  • Ensure timely delivery of all reports/findings to the concerned units.

2. Preventive / Promotive:

  • Wear Dosimeters issued by PAEC during duty.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, particularly in Infection Control and Waste Management in outpatient departments (OPDs), Medical Wards, and ICUs regarding radiology.
  • Ensure proper sterilization of instruments/equipment used in examinations and procedures.
  • Ensure all staff participating in procedures are properly protected by wearing appropriate attire.

3. Teaching / Supervision:

  • Provide training to Medical, Nursing, and Paramedical Staff as per departmental/specialty requirements and protocols.

4. General:

  • Remain on call after working hours.
  • Ensure timely submission of statistical reports for the unit.
  • Monitor staff punctuality and unit cleanliness.
  • Prepare and implement duty rosters for the unit
  • Ensure electro-medical equipment is regularly maintained and functional.
  • Ensure regular supply/replenishment of medicines and stores
  • Provide technical assistance to management for the purchase of new equipment/instruments
  • Ensure subordinate staff adhere to job descriptions (JDs) and SOPs.
  • Write Objective Performance Evaluation Reports for subordinate staff.
  • Perform outreach duties to lower facilities as required.
  • Fulfill any other professional duties assigned by the in-charge.
