The purpose of the Psychologist is to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions through evidence-based psychotherapies, collaborating with patients and their families to develop and implement personalized treatment plans, promote emotional well-being, and facilitate optimal psychological functioning.


Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Rehabilitative/Curative

  • Performs and documents an initial examination, evaluating the data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention.
  • Administers Psychotherapy in sessions.
  • Evaluates effects of psychotherapy at various stages and plans adjustments in therapy.
  • Involves family in psychotherapy procedures to be continued at home.
  • Records psychotherapy done with response/progress in the patient's chart or enters information into the computer.
  • Gradually withdraws psychotherapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provides for appropriate follow-up care or referrals.
  • Tests and evaluates the patient's psychological strength before and after therapy and records data.
  • Identifies and documents goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
  • Informs the patient when diagnosis reveals findings outside the scope of psychotherapy and refers to an appropriate practitioner.
  • Plans, prepares, and carries out individually designed programs of psychological interventions to maintain, improve, or restore psychological dysfunction in patients.
  • Obtains patients' informed consent to proposed interventions.
  • Provides information to the patient about the proposed intervention, its material risks if any, expected benefits, and any reasonable alternatives.
  • Directs group psychological rehabilitation activities.

Preventive / Promotive

  • Provides educational information about psychology and psychologists' work and how one can save oneself and others from psychological trauma.
  • Participates in community health activities and helps to formulate public policy in this regard.
  • Carries out awareness sessions.

Referrals

  • Reviews physician's referrals and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and psychotherapy required.
  • Refers clients to health resources and services within the hospital and at higher levels.
  • Conducts initial and refresher training of staff to enable them to start working efficiently or continue efficiently.
  • Shares educational information for other psychologists, doctors, and/or patients.

General

  • Administrative and technical in charge of the Department of Clinical Psychology.
  • Remains available during working hours for routine/emergency cases and teaching.
  • Ensures attendance of subordinate staff.
  • Checks the punctuality of the staff attached to the section.
  • Checks the cleanliness and upkeep of the department.
  • Controls scheduled functioning of various staff.
  • Ensures regular upkeep and maintenance of departmental electro-medical equipment to ensure their functionality at all times.
  • Ensures that responsible staff is regular in supply/replenishment of medicines and stores.
  • Guides the management for the purchase of new equipment/instruments needed for the department.
  • Checks and supervises subordinate staff to ensure their performance as per job descriptions, SOPs, and SMPs.
  • Allocates duties to subordinate staff from within the framework of particular job descriptions.
  • Uses specific supervisory tools, i.e., checklists for various jobs to assess the performance of incumbents and facilities.
  • Performs outreach duties to lower facilities and the community.
  • Any other relevant task assigned by the supervisor.
