Nutrition Assistant

To support the implementation of simplified nutrition and Wasting Prevention and Management protocols, particularly in remote and underserved areas of the district, by ensuring early detection and community-based management of child wasting at the household level and strengthening referral linkages for children with complications to OTPs and stabilization centers within the district. The position also prioritizes effective commodity management, accurate documentation, and essential administrative support to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality service delivery.

• Support and oversee the implementation of nutrition components in assigned areas of operation under the direct supervision of the District Nutrition & ECD Coordinator and/or Project Manager.
• Support the management of acute malnutrition in line with revised Wasting Prevention and Management guidelines, ensuring that outreach/OTP services operate within agreed quality and performance indicators.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and on-the-job support to health staff and community workers, including Nutrition Assistants, Social Mobilizers, LHVs, LHWs, and Health Promoters.
• Conduct and supervise MUAC screening, admission, follow-up, and referral of children with wasting and PBWs identified with acute malnutrition, ensuring timely referral of complicated cases.
• Support preparation and timely submission of weekly and monthly screening, outreach, and treatment reports, including OTP and supplementary feeding-related data, in coordination with the field nutrition team.
• Follow up on preparation and submission of timely supply requests for nutrition commodities (RUTF, FBF/UNIMIX, MNPs, and related items) in consultation with district and provincial nutrition coordinators to ensure uninterrupted programme implementation.
• Travel as required to supervise field activities, build the capacity of community-level staff (Social Mobilizers, CRPs) and facility-based staff (LHVs, Health Promoters), and ensure adherence to protocols.
• Liaise closely with the District & Provincial Project Coordinators, PMC, and health teams to ensure an integrated nutrition approach and effective coordination between Primary Health Care (PHC) and Nutrition services.
• Where required, support and oversee community-based nutrition approaches, adapting strategies in collaboration with the district team and field medical staff to respond to changing operational contexts.
• Contribute technical inputs to nutrition programme planning, proposal development, and reporting in close coordination with the district and field nutrition teams.
• Coordinate with MoH representatives and represent MERF at district nutrition coordination meetings in the absence of the District Nutrition & ECD Coordinator.
• Support commodity management, including stock monitoring, record keeping, and proper utilization at field and facility levels.
• Ensure integration of PSEAH, safeguarding, AAP, gender, and inclusion principles in all field activities.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the line supervisor in support of programme objectives.
