The Legal Assistant - Real Estate supports the day-to-day activities of the lawyer(s) assigned, specializing in real estate law, family law, and litigation.

  • This role is responsible for document preparation and general practice administration, with a focus on real estate transactions, family law cases, and litigation matters.
  • Responsible for filing of documentation related to real estate transactions, family law cases, and litigation proceedings, data entry and data management for all three areas of practice, correspondence, and client management across real estate, family law, and litigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in the efficient and effective management of the practice, scheduling appointments, file management, etc., including family law and litigation cases.
  • Facilitate communication between lawyer, clients, and external contacts, particularly in family law and litigation matters.
  • Assist Lawyer in completing real estate files from beginning to end of transaction, and similarly, assist in family law and litigation cases as needed.
  • General duties, including opening and maintaining files, drafting and sending correspondence, etc., for both real estate and family law and litigation matters.
  • Reviewing title reports, and as necessary, reviewing legal documents related to family law and litigation cases.
  • Requesting title insurance, if applicable to real estate cases, and other necessary insurance or documentation for family law and litigation cases.
  • Conducting pre due diligence tasks and reviews, which may involve legal research and document preparation for family law and litigation proceedings.
  • Prepare corporate documents for private lender real estate transactions, and legal documents required for family law and litigation cases.
  • Preparing closing packages consisting of all documentation needed to close a real estate transaction and similar documentation for family law and litigation cases.
  • Communicate with clients, brokers, lenders, and other law offices to complete closings in real estate, and to ensure effective communication with clients in family law and litigation cases.
  • Ongoing verbal and written communication with lawyers, law clerks, and clients, keeping them informed about developments in both real estate and family law and litigation matters.
  • Manage administrative details with respect to opening/closing files for all types of cases handled by the practice, including real estate, family law, and litigation.
  • Strong time management skills to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Other tasks as reasonably required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law.
  • Minimum 4 year working experience in a law firm as a lawyer working in real estate law, and land titles
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and scheduling skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet demanding deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience providing administrative support in an environment with a variety of functions
  • Must have a positive attitude and a willingness to assist others
  • Enjoy working in a large office and team environment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
