Pakistan is among the world’s leading producers of dates; however, approximately 30–40% of annual production is lost due to inadequate harvesting, drying, storage, processing, transportation, and market systems. Climate change, increasing temperatures, erratic rainfall, floods, and limited processing facilities further reduce productivity and farmers’ incomes.

To address these challenges, MAP has developed a concept note titled “Addressing Stunted Growth with Indigenous Super Fruit Resources of Pakistan – Date Palm Value Chain Development Project” for the donor and is now in the process of submitting the detailed technical and financial proposal as per the donor’s format. The proposed project aims to establish climate-smart production systems, processing centres, value addition, nutrition interventions, farmer producer cooperatives, women-led enterprises, and market linkages in major date-producing districts.

Prior to developing the full proposal, MAP intends to engage a qualified consultant to undertake a comprehensive feasibility assessment and prepare an investment-ready project proposal.
