The position involves supporting the development and implementation of pre-fabricated structures and solar energy solutions for Child Protection Units (CPUs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This role ensures uninterrupted services for children at risk by addressing operational challenges posed by power outages and providing sustainable infrastructure solutions. This role is based in Peshawar and includes regular travel to the following districts as required by the assignment: Mardan, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Battagram, Kohat, Mohmand, South Waziristan, Orakzai, Khyber, Kurram, and Bajaur

Duties and Responsibilities

Design and Development

  • Assist the Senior Engineer in conducting site visits to evaluate the feasibility of pre-fabricated structures and solar system installations.
  • Support the creation of detailed architectural and structural designs, integrating solar energy solutions as needed.
  • Ensure designs comply with local building codes, are child-friendly, and consider durability, climate conditions, and potential future expansions.
  • Prepare comprehensive specifications for materials, finishes, and construction methods, including solar panel integration.

Technical Specifications

  • Develop a detailed Bill of Materials for construction and solar installations, specifying all structural and utility components.
  • Design functional and efficient pre-fab structures customized for each district.
  • Conduct thorough assessments for solar system installation in 12 districts, specifying requirements.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure safety measures are in place for site personnel and adhere to UNICEF’s construction guidelines.
  • Review and approve construction and solarization materials and samples.

Project Management and Oversight

  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and cost estimates using market rates (MRS-2024).
  • Assist in preparing tender documents, facilitating bidding processes, and evaluating bids.
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring adherence to approved designs and timelines.
  • Monitor progress through regular site visits and quality control checks.
  • Address any design or construction issues and resolve quality or quantity discrepancies with contractors.
  • Prepare final project documentation and oversee the handover of completed offices.

Field Visits, Monitoring, and Reporting

  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to construction and solarization sites.
  • Submit monthly visit plans, progress reports, and photographs.
  • Provide recommendations for contractor payments and review final invoices.
  • Perform final site visits after the Defect Liability Period (DLP) and prepare final project reports.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Submit detailed structural and solarization drawings.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on solar feasibility, cost estimates, and implementation plans.
  • Document the entire design and construction process for future reference.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in structural design and construction, preferably with pre-fabricated structures.
  • Proficiency in structural and solar design software.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and construction practices.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
