The driver will provide safe, transport services for MC program and support staff in the described AOR (Area of Responsibility). The driver will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the MC transport department.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving and maintenance of the van and facilitating patients during camp.
  • Duty timing will be from the start of the travel to taking the chest camp till parking the van at the destination.
  • Ensure daily maintenance and cleaning of the mobile van for a safe commute and prepare the van for daily activities.
  • Responsible for safe driving and deciding on a safe commute to the decided site, following safe traffic rules and regulations.
  • Keep driving license, van registration, and route permit documents at all times.
  • On reaching the site, park the van at a safe distance ensuring space is available for the camp setup.
  • Ensure personal and staff safety through the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Wear a dosimeter at all times during chest camp as per PNRA recommendations, and store it safely away from the X-ray room after the camp.
  • Set up a shed and chairs near the mobile van for patients waiting outside the van with the help of the field team.
  • Guide patients to enter one at a time in the order of arrival to maintain order among waiting patients.
  • Remain outside the van at all times to ensure the safety of the van and patients from harm.
  • Ensure no unauthorized personnel enter the van without permission.
  • Submit a written incident report form in case of any unusual event before the end of the business day.
  • Maintain a daily fuel log for fuel consumption records.
  • Check the vehicle's condition after each trip/routinely and report any needs or problems to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares, etc.
  • Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to transport management regularly.
  • Adherence to all MC policies and procedures as outlined in MC policies and procedure manuals.
  • Conduct oneself both professionally and personally in a manner that brings credit to Mercy Corps and does not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in the country of operation.

Knowledge and Experience

Middle school diploma or equivalent with Valid driver’s license (HTV) and five years of experience driving heavy vehicles. Must respect and adhere to all safety and traffic rules. Basic understanding of English and fluency in local languages is required. Knowledge of routes, duty stations, project areas, the NGO and diplomatic community is required. Basic Knowledge of vehicles maintenance.
