General Position Summary

The Counselor will be responsible for counselling the eligible family members of index TB patients for TB Preventive Treatment (TPT). The counsellor will be placed in large private hospitals (TPT facilities) of their respective district on a rotational basis. S/he will be responsible for maintaining documents/files as per the formats shared.

Essential Job Responsibilities

1. Counsel registered index TB patients and their eligible family members for TPT through phone calls, at large private hospitals (that are selected for the provision of TPT services), visiting households, etc.

2. Coordination with the DFS for obtaining information about registered index TB patients and their family members.

3. Visit Chest Camps (contact screening camps) for the provision of TPT services to eligible family members of index TB patients.

4. Ensure household contacts of registered index TB patients at large private hospitals are screened via X-ray, checked up by physicians and put on TPT if eligible by a physician.

5. Facilitate the household contacts put on TPT in case of adverse events and referred to the physician.

6. Ensure TPT medicines are available, and in case of unavailability, report this to the concerned supervisor.

7. Maintain records of contacts, i.e., those counselled and followed up until outcome declaration.

8. Develop and follow the monthly work plan in coordination with the supervisor.

9. Prepare a field progress report based on the work plan and submit it on a monthly basis.

10. Ensure timely data collection and provision to sub-recipients for analysis.

11. Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Accountability

Reports Directly To: Regional Coordinator (Sub-Recipients) and works in close coordination with DTCs, DFSs and TB Screeners.

Works Directly With: SR Unit   

Knowledge and Experience

Bachelor with a minimum of two years of experience working in the development sector as a counsellor/similar role.

Qualified Psychologists will be given preference if having relevant experience. Excellent communication, writing, coordination and training skills are required. Work experience with NGOs is a plus.
