Job Summary: A Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of various ground support equipment used in the aviation and transportation industry. This role requires a strong mechanical background and a diploma in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on GSE, including but not limited to baggage carts, aircraft tugs, ground power units, and de-icing equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to ensure the safe and reliable operation of GSE.
- Execute repairs and adjustments on equipment to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, including parts replacements and repairs.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
- Conduct regular inspections and lubrication of GSE components to prevent wear and tear.
- Identify potential issues and recommend necessary repairs or replacements to prevent breakdowns.
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure GSE meets safety and environmental regulations, and report any non-compliance issues.
- Conduct safety checks before and after equipment operation.
Parts and Inventory Management:
- Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and tools necessary for repairs.
- Order replacement parts and supplies as needed and keep track of expenditures.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other GSE technicians, mechanics, and engineering staff to solve complex problems.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules.
Documentation:
- Complete maintenance reports and service records accurately and promptly.
- Document equipment modifications, upgrades, and improvements.
Training and Development:
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, equipment technologies, and safety procedures.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Previous experience in GSE maintenance or a similar role is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in the aviation industry.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
