Job Summary: A Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of various ground support equipment used in the aviation and transportation industry. This role requires a strong mechanical background and a diploma in mechanical engineering or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on GSE, including but not limited to baggage carts, aircraft tugs, ground power units, and de-icing equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to ensure the safe and reliable operation of GSE.
  • Execute repairs and adjustments on equipment to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, including parts replacements and repairs.

Preventive Maintenance:

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Conduct regular inspections and lubrication of GSE components to prevent wear and tear.
  • Identify potential issues and recommend necessary repairs or replacements to prevent breakdowns.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure GSE meets safety and environmental regulations, and report any non-compliance issues.
  • Conduct safety checks before and after equipment operation.

Parts and Inventory Management:

  • Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and tools necessary for repairs.
  • Order replacement parts and supplies as needed and keep track of expenditures.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other GSE technicians, mechanics, and engineering staff to solve complex problems.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules.

Documentation:

  • Complete maintenance reports and service records accurately and promptly.
  • Document equipment modifications, upgrades, and improvements.

Training and Development:

  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, equipment technologies, and safety procedures.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience in GSE maintenance or a similar role is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in the aviation industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
