Key Responsibilities:

Food Safety and Hygiene Compliance:

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and local or international food safety standards.
  • Ensure that all sanitation protocols are followed to prevent contamination at every stage of food production.
  • Conduct regular hygiene audits and inspections in production areas, storage, and handling zones.

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Supervise and ensure proper quality control measures are in place for raw materials, in-process production, and finished products.
  • Perform regular quality checks on food products, ingredients, and packaging to ensure they meet company and regulatory standards.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to product defects, contamination, or non-conformance.

Training and Education:

  • Train employees on proper food handling, hygiene practices, and safety protocols.
  • Provide ongoing education on new food safety standards and best practices in sanitation.
  • Organize refresher courses and workshops to ensure all staff are up-to-date with industry regulations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, and training sessions.
  • Document any incidents of contamination or quality failures and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
  • Generate reports on food safety performance and quality control metrics for management.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in food safety and hygiene practices and implement corrective measures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and innovations in food safety and quality control.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures related to food hygiene and quality assurance.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
  • A degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field is typically required
  • Some positions may require additional certifications like HACCP, Food Safety Manager, or First Aid.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a food production, processing, or manufacturing environment, with exposure to food safety standards, quality assurance, and hygiene procedures.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong ability to identify issues or deviations in food safety and quality processes and take corrective action.
  • Knowledge of Standards and Regulations: Familiarity with food safety laws, regulations, and standards, such as FDA regulations (in the U. S. ), European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) standards, or other relevant governing bodies.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to report findings, train staff, and communicate with regulatory authorities.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess complex situations, analyze risks, and implement effective solutions to maintain high standards.
  • Typical Work Environment: Food production plants, warehouses, distribution centers, or retail food service settings.
  • The work may involve a combination of office work (documentation, reporting) and time spent on the production floor performing inspections, audits, and training.
