We are looking for a motivated Associate Laravel Developer with 1.5 to 3 years of experience to join Appsians, a bootstrapped and profitable software and product company. In this role, you will immediately contribute to production Laravel applications by designing APIs, structuring databases, and building clean frontend interfaces using React or Vue. You will take on hands-on engineering tasks with genuine ownership, focusing on meaningful work rather than routine assignments. This position offers the chance to collaborate closely with designers and product managers to deliver impactful features from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain Laravel-based web applications and RESTful APIs.
- Write well-structured Eloquent models, define relationships, and create database migrations.
- Implement authentication systems, role-based access control (RBAC), and middleware logic.
- Create and consume APIs with proper validation, error handling, and response formatting.
- Build frontend components using React or Vue and integrate them seamlessly with Laravel backends.
- Design normalized database schemas and write optimized SQL queries.
- Participate in code reviews, uphold code quality, and write meaningful tests.
- Debug issues efficiently in staging and production environments.
- Collaborate closely with designers and product managers to deliver features end-to-end.
Required Qualifications:
Laravel / PHP:
- Strong understanding of Laravel’s MVC architecture, service container, and dependency injection.
- Proficient with Eloquent ORM, including relationships (hasMany, belongsToMany, polymorphic), eager loading, scopes, and accessors/mutators.
- Experience with migrations, seeders, factories, and artisan commands.
- Knowledge of middleware, form request validation, resource controllers, and Laravel’s queue/job system.
Database (MySQL/PostgreSQL):
- Ability to design normalized relational schemas (1NF–3NF) and write efficient raw SQL queries when appropriate.
- Familiarity with indexes, foreign keys, transactions, and query optimization techniques such as EXPLAIN.
- Experience seeding realistic test data and writing complex joins and subqueries.
- Bonus: Experience with Redis for caching and session management.
React or Vue:
- Skilled in building functional components using hooks (useState, useEffect, useContext, useRef).
- Understanding of component lifecycle, controlled vs. uncontrolled inputs, and state management patterns.
- Experience fetching and handling API data using Axios or Fetch.
- Familiar with routing using React Router and breaking UI designs into reusable component trees.
Frontend Fundamentals:
- Solid knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3, including semantic markup, flexbox, grid, and responsive design.
- Proficient with Tailwind CSS utility classes for rapid UI development.
- Understanding of JavaScript interaction with the DOM, form handling, client-side validation, and managing loading/error states.
Version Control & Workflow:
- Comfortable using Git daily, including branching strategies, rebasing, conflict resolution, and writing meaningful commit messages.
- Experience with GitHub or GitLab for collaborative development and code reviews.
AI-Assisted Development:
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants like Cursor or Copilot is a plus.
- Approaches AI-generated code critically by reviewing, testing, and taking ownership before deployment.
- This is a preferred workflow, not a strict requirement.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits:
- Experience with Inertia.js or Livewire for server-driven frontend rendering is highly valued.
- Exposure to Cloudflare R2, AWS S3, or similar object storage solutions.
- Familiarity with Electron or cross-platform desktop application development.
- Basic understanding of Docker for local development environments.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions.
