Program Description

The Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives (IDEAS) is a Finance Associate to join our core management team. S/he will be responsible for financial accounting for grants, managing payroll, maintaining financial statements and leading day to day accounting functions in the organisation. We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated and passionate, and can meet their deliverables with a high level of independent-thinking and initiative.

The ideal candidate should engage in all the financial aspects of grant management and produce quality financial outputs. The position has the following responsibilities:

  • Initiates financial accounting for grants and contracts including documentation, compliance, reporting, and reconciling.
  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that ensure complete transparency within the organization and for the funders.
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met.
  • Manage cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with organizational / project’s needs.
  • Carry out bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger.
  • Monitor risk management policies and procedures to ensure that program and organizational risks are minimized.
  • Establish standards / benchmark indicators to help management evaluate its operating and financial performance.
  • Prepare analysis of monthly accounts, budget comparisons, business plans quarterly and long range forecasts for the Management.
  • Ensure accounting integrity for monitoring of Funds and Grants.
  • Introduce and Implement best practices and innovative solutions for operational issues.
  • Day to day accounting functions to properly allocate research projects revenues and expenditures in accordance with funding guidelines and recognized cost principles.

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential

  • ACCA, ACMA, CA Articles completed, MBA Finance, MS Finance and Accounting, M. Com
  • 3-5 years’ post qualification experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Very good with Microsoft Excel
  • Very good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and reliability.
