Essential Duties:
Equipment Operation: Operate roller compactors to compact soil, asphalt, and other construction materials to achieve specified density and smoothness. Use controls, levers, and pedals to maneuver the roller, adjust vibration frequency and amplitude, and control travel speed to optimize compaction results.
Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces for compaction by grading, leveling, and spreading materials using bulldozers, graders, and other equipment. Coordinate with site supervisors and construction crews to ensure proper surface conditions and material placement prior to compaction operations.
Compaction Techniques: Apply appropriate compaction techniques, patterns, and passes to achieve uniform compaction across the surface area. Coordinate with compaction inspectors and quality control personnel to monitor compaction density and identify areas requiring additional compaction or corrective measures.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations, procedures, and best practices while operating roller compactors. Conduct pre-operational inspections of the roller compactor and safety checks of surrounding work areas to identify hazards, obstructions, or potential risks. Implement safety measures, such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and using traffic control devices, to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage.
Maintenance and Inspection: Perform routine maintenance tasks on roller compactors, including lubrication, inspection, and minor repairs, to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Report any mechanical issues, malfunctions, or safety concerns to the maintenance department for timely resolution and corrective action.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of compaction activities, including compaction logs, inspection reports, and equipment maintenance records. Document compaction density, roller passes, and any deviations from project specifications for compliance, reporting, and analysis purposes.
Communication: Communicate effectively with site supervisors, construction crews, and other team members to coordinate compaction activities and ensure proper sequencing of work. Follow instructions, relay information, and respond to inquiries to maintain smooth workflow and productivity on the job site.
Other Important Duties: Any other duties as may from time to time reasonably be required.
Requirements:- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness (Dover test).
- Previous experience 5-10 years as a roller compactor operator or similar role in construction or roadwork.
- Familiarity with roller compactor operation, compaction techniques, and safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and compaction requirements.
- Valid driver's license and certification to operate roller compactors.
- Physical strength, agility, and stamina to operate heavy equipment and work in outdoor environments.
