We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Legal Typist to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have exceptional typing skills, a keen eye for detail, and a thorough understanding of legal terminology and documentation. The Legal Typist will be responsible for accurately transcribing legal documents, ensuring the highest standards of confidentiality and precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Document Preparation:

    • Accurately type and format legal documents including contracts, briefs, pleadings, affidavits, and other legal correspondence.
    • Ensure all documents are prepared in accordance with legal standards and requirements.
    • Proofread documents for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
  2. Transcription:

    • Transcribe dictated recordings from attorneys and other legal professionals.
    • Convert audio recordings into written documents with high accuracy.
  3. File Management:

    • Organize and maintain physical and digital files in a systematic and efficient manner.
    • Ensure all legal documents are properly filed and easily retrievable.
  4. Confidentiality:

    • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding all legal matters and sensitive information.
    • Handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  5. Collaboration:

    • Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal staff to ensure timely completion of legal documents.
    • Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and coordinating meetings.
  6. Compliance:

    • Ensure all legal documents comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
    • Stay updated on legal terminology, procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional legal or administrative training is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a legal typist, secretary, or in a similar role within a legal setting.
  • Excellent typing speed and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in legal terminology and document formatting.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Discretion and integrity in handling confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or certification in legal studies or a related field.
  • Experience with legal transcription software.

Work Environment:

  • Office setting with standard working hours.
  • May require occasional overtime to meet deadlines.
