The Director of AI and Discovery leads the identification, development, and evaluation of artificial intelligence solutions and emerging technology proofs-of-concept specifically designed for government applications. This role is pivotal in advancing IT innovation and digital transformation across Federal Ministries and Divisions by driving initiatives through centers of excellence. The Director ensures that AI projects align with governance, ethical standards, and security requirements, while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage AI and discovery initiatives to uncover opportunities for applying artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in government digital transformation efforts. Direct technology discovery, research, feasibility studies, and innovation activities aimed at evaluating AI-enabled solutions that improve operational efficiency. Collaborate closely with business process re-engineering, solution architecture, and transformation teams to incorporate AI opportunities into digital transformation roadmaps and solution designs.

Oversee the planning and execution of proof-of-concept (PoC) projects to evaluate the technical and operational viability of emerging technologies prior to full-scale implementation. Support technical readiness by ensuring compliance with information security policies and assurance frameworks related to new technologies. Ensure that AI development efforts conform to governance, ethical standards, and applicable security protocols.

Monitor the progress of AI initiatives and projects, implementing corrective actions and driving continuous improvement as needed. Prepare and present regular reports detailing AI initiatives, innovation outcomes, and technology discovery activities. Promote institutional AI capabilities through knowledge sharing, innovation programs, and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. Professional certifications in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud AI Platforms, or equivalent credentials are advantageous. Candidates should have 7 to 10 years of experience in digital technologies, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or emerging technologies. Proven experience managing AI solution development, research and innovation programs, or enterprise AI implementations is essential.
