Helpath AI is a UK-based software platform for domestic-abuse and safeguarding charities. We replace paperwork-heavy, manual processes with a secure case-management system that lets frontline support workers spend less time on admin and more time helping vulnerable people. We already have a live MVP in use as our foundation, and we're now building toward the next version — including AI-assisted features. This is meaningful work. The software handles sensitive, real-world cases, and the quality and security of what we build directly affects people at risk.
The role
We're hiring our first in-house senior engineer to take ownership of the product alongside the founder. You won't start from scratch — you'll take over and extend an existing, working codebase, ship new features quickly as charities give us feedback, and raise the engineering standard as we grow. Over time you'll also help bring AI features into the platform. Because we're a small team, you'll work directly with a non-technical founder. The ability to explain technical trade-offs in plain language, make sensible decisions independently, and flag risks early matters as much as your coding skill. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role — you should be comfortable working with little to no supervision. We're looking for someone who can think beyond the immediate requirements, ask thoughtful questions, and design systems that can support the features we expect to build over the next year. Some working-hours overlap with UK time required Our process is a short paid take-home task followed by a technical interview, so both sides can decide with confidence
What matters most to us
This is a safeguarding platform, so security and data protection come first. A feature that "works" but leaks data between organisations is a failure, not a near-miss. We value engineers who are careful, think about edge cases, and are honest about risks and trade-offs.
How to apply
Send your CV, your GitHub or portfolio, and a short note (3–4 sentences) on a project where you owned security or access control. Applications without a CV and a link to real work won't be considered.
