In this role, you take charge of preparing and reviewing Australian financial statements and tax returns, interfacing confidently with accountants and clients. You handle multiple deadlines with strong time management skills and demonstrate a keen eye for detail to identify and resolve issues proactively. Strong communication skills in English and the ability to train junior staff members are essential. Familiarity with key accounting and taxation software such as MYOB and Xero, along with tax return preparation tools, enables efficient management of payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and GST compliance activities. Your leadership ensures that the team operates seamlessly in alignment with Australian accounting standards and taxation regulations while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Responsibilities

  • Manage the full accounting cycle for Australian clients, including financial reporting, tax return preparation, and tax compliance in accordance with Australian standards and regulations.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize Australian financial statements and taxation documents, ensuring accuracy and statutory compliance.
  • Lead and supervise a team of two accounting professionals, providing mentorship, training, and performance reviews to support their professional growth.
  • Oversee GST, BAS reporting processes and ensure adherence to Australian taxation laws and the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) requirements.
  • Monitor and manage budgeting and forecasting activities to support financial planning and decision-making.
  • Conduct thorough account reconciliations, bank statement imports, and automate bank feed processes using software such as MYOB and Xero.
  • Configure and maintain accounting systems including Xero Chart of Accounts, bank rules, payroll management, and MYOB payroll processing to optimize workflow.
  • Communicate effectively with Australian accountants, clients, and other stakeholders, addressing queries and providing clear and timely updates.
  • Identify issues and discrepancies proactively and implement corrective actions with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ensure all tasks meet deadlines by managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing workload strategically.
  • Review work submitted by junior accountants or team members to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in Australian taxation laws and accounting best practices to provide informed guidance to the team and clients.
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team and daily operations.
