Core Assists is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join its finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost accounting and project-based accounting, with the ability to analyze and report on production, operational, and project-related costs. This role requires proficiency in managing cost-to-complete estimates, variance analysis, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP and IFRS. The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in supporting month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and assisting with internal and external audits. Collaboration with operations, project management, and finance teams is essential to deliver accurate financial insights and support business decision-making. The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with 2 to 7 years of relevant experience. They demonstrate expertise in financial reporting, general ledger management, and revenue recognition under the Percentage of Completion (POC) method. This individual is highly organized and analytical, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines without team management responsibilities. Familiarity with ERP systems, advanced Excel skills, and knowledge of ASC 606 or IFRS 15 are important for success in this role. Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is preferred but not mandatory. The position operates in the late evening to early morning hours to align with company requirements.
Responsibilities

  • Analyze and report on production, operational, and project-related costs to support informed business decisions.
  • Perform Percentage of Completion (POC) calculations for long-term contracts and projects to ensure accurate revenue recognition.
  • Track project costs, including labor and materials, and monitor cost-to-complete estimates and margin forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain standard costing systems and conduct detailed variance analysis for cost control and optimization.
  • Monitor and accurately value inventory, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to reflect true asset values.
  • Reconcile cost accounting records with the general ledger to maintain financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Prepare comprehensive cost reports to assist with budgeting, forecasting, pricing decisions, and financial statement preparation.
  • Identify and investigate cost variances, trends, and opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including preparing journal entries related to POC and cost accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, financial reporting standards (GAAP and IFRS), and internal controls regarding cost and revenue recognition.
  • Assist with internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation and clarifications on cost accounting and POC methodologies.
  • Collaborate effectively with operations, project management, and finance teams to streamline accounting processes and enhance financial reporting accuracy.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong organizational skills, maintaining a focus on accuracy and timely delivery of financial data.
