You will plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of rice and grain products through chemical and physical analysis. This position involves conducting quality tests, monitoring sampling processes, and collaborating with mill operations teams to enhance product quality and optimize yield. The Chemist also contributes to research and development initiatives, maintains laboratory standards, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.

 Key Responsibilities:

 Quality Control and Testing: 

  • Conduct routine and specialized tests on raw and finished rice and grain products, including moisture content, grain size, and contamination levels.
  • Analyze samples for physical and chemical parameters such as broken, discolored, and other content.
  • Develop and validate analytical methods to ensure consistent rice quality.
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., operations, administration etc.) to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Train and mentor laboratory staff on testing procedures and safety protocols.

Process Monitoring: 

  • Oversee sampling processes to optimize procedures and improve rice yield and quality.
  • Identify and resolve quality issues during sampling and production processes.
  • Collaborate with mill operations teams to implement corrective measures as required.

 Research and Development: 

  • Develop and implement advanced testing protocols aligned with food safety standards.
  • Evaluate different rice and grain varieties, along with milling techniques, for potential upgrades in quality standards.
  •  Investigate processing challenges and recommend improvements based on chemical analysis.

 Documentation and Reporting: 

  •  Maintain accurate records of test results and analysis.
  • Prepare reports summarizing findings, recommendations and compliance with industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

 Laboratory Management:

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and safety standards, ensuring that all tests are performed in a safe and clean environment.
  • Manage inventory of chemicals and agents, ensuring proper storage and labeling.
  • Maintain cleanliness to prevent cross-contamination and ensure compliance with safety standards.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Agriculture, or a related field. (Master’s degree will be preferred).

 Experience: 

  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in the food processing or agricultural sector.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and safety protocols is essential.

 Skills: 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.

 Working Conditions:

  • May require working in a laboratory and production environment with exposure to various chemicals and machinery.
