COMSATS Internet Services (CIS), Pakistan's pioneering Internet Service Provider, is seeking a qualified and experienced Manager Core Networks to join its Islamabad office on a contract basis. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of two professionals, overseeing the core network infrastructure to ensure its stability, security, and optimal performance. This role demands hands-on expertise in managing core network technologies, including Cisco equipment, routing protocols, and network traffic engineering to support seamless internet services to customers. The Manager Core Networks is responsible for designing, configuring, and troubleshooting the core network components while implementing security measures to protect network integrity.
The role requires proven experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and ISIS for efficient traffic management and bandwidth utilization. An understanding of IPv4 and IPv6 routing is essential, along with practical skills in bandwidth management, network traffic shaping, and using monitoring tools like MRTG and CACTI. The Manager Core Networks plays a pivotal role in distributing international bandwidth effectively across fiber, wireless, and wired connections to meet customer demands. The position contributes directly to the growth and reliability of CIS's network services and demands a proactive, solution-oriented individual with at least five years of relevant experience in network infrastructure management.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of two network professionals to maintain and enhance core network operations within CIS Islamabad.
- Configure, install, and maintain Cisco routers, switches, and firewall devices to establish a secure and robust network environment.
- Implement and manage interior gateway protocols including OSPF and ISIS to optimize internal network routing.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and manage BGP routing protocols to ensure reliable international and external connectivity.
- Apply traffic shaping and bandwidth management techniques to optimize network resources and ensure fair distribution among users.
- Manage both IPv4 and IPv6 routing protocols and strategies to support the evolving network addressing requirements.
- Utilize network monitoring tools such as MRTG and CACTI to track performance metrics and identify anomalies in bandwidth usage.
- Administer the distribution of international bandwidth efficiently to various customer interfaces including fiber, wireless, and wired connections.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues involving dedicated and shared configurations to minimize downtime and service disruptions.
- Maintain network security practices to protect critical infrastructure from external and internal threats.
- Coordinate with other departments and vendors to align network infrastructure upgrades and maintenance with organizational goals.
- Develop and update documentation of network configurations, procedures, and standards to facilitate knowledge sharing and compliance.
- Monitor network traffic engineering and routing protocol health to proactively address performance bottlenecks and prevent failures.
- Stay current with the latest developments in core network technologies and integrate relevant advancements to enhance network capabilities.
