Linux System Administrator

COMSATS Internet Services seeks a skilled Linux System Administrator with a minimum of four years of experience to join our dynamic IT team. The successful candidate will manage and maintain the company’s Linux server infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance. This role involves working with a range of technologies including virtualization, cloud infrastructure, storage solutions, and system backup and recovery. The administrator will also be responsible for monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and enforcing compliance with security standards. Additionally, the position requires leading and mentoring a small team of system or hosting professionals to meet operational goals effectively. The ideal candidate demonstrates extensive knowledge of Linux server administration, disaster recovery techniques, and security protocols such as firewall configuration and secure shell management. Experience with storage technologies, file system management, and virtual environments such as VMWare ESX is essential.A strong background in Linux shell scripting and cloud infrastructure management is necessary to automate tasks and support evolving technology needs. Educational qualifications in computer science, telecommunications, software engineering, or information technology are required to fulfill the demands of this role within COMSATS Internet Services.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and related services to ensure optimal operation and availability.
Monitor system performance continuously and carry out pro-active tuning to improve server responsiveness and stability.
Manage and implement security measures including configuring IP tables, SSH, SSL, and other protocols to safeguard systems against unauthorized access.
Administer network services such as DNS, SMTP, Apache, FTP, and ensure secure and efficient communication within infrastructure.
Oversee storage solutions including SAN, NAS, and RAID configurations and manage file systems like EXT3/4, NFS, iSCSI, XFS, and LVM to ensure data integrity and availability.
Design and execute disaster recovery procedures and backup strategies to minimize business disruption and data loss.
Manage virtual environments using VMWare ESX and support cloud infrastructure deployments and maintenance tasks.
Develop and maintain Linux shell scripts to automate routine system tasks and enhance operational efficiency.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network infrastructure, troubleshoot system issues, and deploy new systems or software updates.
Lead and mentor a team of two Linux system professionals, providing guidance, setting performance objectives, and supporting their technical development.
