COMSATS Internet Services is seeking a skilled Deputy General Manager (Hosting) to oversee and manage advanced hosting and web server environments. This role involves handling complex issues related to domain and hosting services, monitoring email queues, server availability, and resource utilization to ensure reliable service performance. The successful candidate will lead a team, manage hosting account migrations, maintain backups, and ensure the security and rapid restoration of hosting services. They must be available on call 24/7 to respond promptly to emergencies and escalations. This position requires at least five years of experience in hosting and server management, strong knowledge of recovery procedures, and expertise with network configurations and server operating systems. The Deputy General Manager will supervise a team of three professionals, fostering a collaborative environment while taking responsibility for escalated issues. They will utilize their extensive understanding of Linux and Windows systems, hosting control panels, firewalls, DNS, SMTP, web servers, databases, and storage technologies to maintain robust infrastructure and service excellence.
Responsibilities
A suitable candidate must have 6 years of relevant experience and must be able to perform the following:
- Manage and resolve advanced issues related to domain and hosting services efficiently.
- Monitor email queues to control email traffic load and prevent spam incidents.
- Continuously oversee server availability and resource usage to maintain optimal server health.
- Ensure regular weekly and monthly backups of hosting accounts to safeguard data.
- Maintain availability of service logs for up to one year to facilitate audits and troubleshooting.
- Lead the migration of hosting accounts between servers and across different hosting panels.
- Restore service operations promptly and minimize downtime in case of failures.
- Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect hosting servers.
- Handle escalated issues from subordinates, providing guidance and expert resolution.
- Be available for emergency response 24/7 to guarantee service continuity.
- Supervise and manage a team of three professionals, promoting teamwork and productivity.
- Apply disaster recovery strategies and procedures to ensure rapid recovery from incidents.
- Configure and manage IPv4 and IPv6 networks at the operating system level.
- Administer Linux and Windows operating systems, applying patches and updates as needed.
- Oversee hosting control panels including WHM, cPanel, and Plesk to manage hosting environments.
- Manage host firewalls and networking tools such as IPTables, DNS, SMTP, Apache, SSH, SSL, and FTP.
- Administer web servers and mail servers including IIS, Apache, Exim, SmarterMail, and MailEnable.
- Maintain and manage databases such as MySQL and MS SQL Server for hosting services.
- Utilize spam filtering tools, including Symantec SMG and SMTP messaging gateways to prevent spam.
- Manage storage configurations using SAN, NAS, and RAID level concepts to ensure data integrity.
- Perform file system management tasks on EXT3/4, NFS, ISCSI, XFS, and LVM file systems.
- Administer virtual environments using VMWare ESX to support scalable hosting solutions.
- Develop and maintain Linux shell scripts to automate routine administrative tasks.
- Provide advanced Linux systems administration and troubleshooting expertise.
