PFDC was established in September 2006 with an initial membership of 30 designers, and now comprises more than 50 designers from all over Pakistan. The Council consists of 22 board members of these, six are corporate members and the rest are designers. Mr. Avais Mazhar is Chairperson of PFDC, while the Chairperson of the Executive Committee is Mrs. Sehyr Saigol & CEO Mr Saad Ali. In line with its ideology, PFDC endeavors to accord corporate status to the business of fashion, and to provide a platform for young and mainstream designers. Another important aim of the council is to institutionalize the fashion industry in order to create and maintain industry standards in conformity with global market standards. Developing a culture of professionalism within the fashion industry will go a long way towards benefiting the nations economy. Very importantly, the PFDC is also involved in the revival of the crafts sector in collaboration with AikHunar Aik Nagar (AHAN). This is significant as 90 % of the embroideries of the subcontinent have their origins in Pakistan. The council offers two annual scholarships to aspiring and deserving Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design (PIFD) students. PFDC also continues to strive towards the standardization of the pret a porter industry and to this end, it runs two multi-label retail boutiques in Lahore and Karachi.
