ARC International

Founded in 1979, ARC is an international non-profit, non-sectarian organization that has provided health care, humanitarian aid and training to millions of refugees and displaced people over the past 27 years. In the mid-1980s it expanded to serve refugees first in Africa and later in Central Asia and Europe as the scale of the refugee problem grew in the 1990s. Today ARC works in 12 countries around the world helping victims of civil conflict and natural disasters rebuild their lives. ARC programs in Africa, the Balkans, Central and South East Asia, provide primary and comprehensive reproductive health care, water and sanitation, shelter repair, legal aid, trauma counseling, micro-credit, community development services, employment training and repatriation assistance to nearly one million people annually.

American Refugee Committee (ARC) International has been working in Pakistan since 2002 providing primary and comprehensive reproductive health and Gender Based Violence (GBV) services to the Afghan refugees in Baluchistan, later in district Bagh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, after the October 8, 2005 earthquake. ARC has provided life supporting and self-reliance assistance in the following sectors: primary and comprehensive reproductive health services, clean drinking water and sanitation, community development, shelter reconstruction, livestock, agriculture, in earthquake affected areas. ARC International currently provides services to more than 110,000 refugees in Balochistan and an above 200,000 beneficiaries in 12 union councils in district Bagh, AJK.

ARC has built its core competencies in the areas of emergency shelter, water and sanitation, and provision of primary and reproductive health service to an expanded group of beneficiaries and therefore once again responded to the affectees of Cyclom Yemyin flood disaster came in June/July 2007.
