We are looking for an experienced and results-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and enhance our client’s operations in Pakistan, supporting a large retail network based in the United States. This full-time, onsite role is located in Karachi and requires working the night shift. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in retail operations, telecommunications, and shared services, with proven expertise in managing complex, multi-functional teams and driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Execution:
Oversee daily company-wide operations and service delivery across various functions. Translate strategic business goals into clear departmental objectives, priorities, timelines, and deliverables. Ensure that managers and teams consistently meet deadlines, KPIs, SLAs, and service standards. Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and timely execution. Monitor operational challenges, ensure proper escalation, and lead resolution efforts. Identify recurring issues and implement sustainable improvements.
Leadership & Team Management:
Lead a large, multi-functional workforce through department heads, managers, and supervisors. Define clear roles, reporting lines, and accountability at all organizational levels. Conduct regular performance reviews of departments and implement corrective measures as necessary. Develop and mentor managers to strengthen their leadership and people management capabilities. Identify talent gaps and support succession planning and leadership development initiatives.
Performance, Training & Coaching:
Establish and track KPIs, productivity metrics, SLAs, and performance standards. Conduct regular management reviews and ensure follow-through on agreed actions. Oversee training and development programs across departments. Provide coaching, mentoring, and ongoing feedback to managers and key personnel. Foster a high-performance culture focused on results and continuous improvement.
Process Improvement & Controls:
Evaluate and enhance processes, workflows, standard operating procedures, and operational controls. Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and control weaknesses, and implement corrective actions. Lead automation and technology initiatives to boost productivity, accuracy, and operational visibility. Ensure seamless coordination and handoffs between departments.
Cross-Functional & US Operations:
Manage coordination between Operations, Finance, HR, IT, Analytics, Accounting, Administration, and other shared services. Address cross-functional challenges and prevent siloed operations. Ensure Pakistan operations consistently meet the standards and requirements of the US retail organization. Maintain strong communication and collaboration with US executive and operational leadership teams.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 12 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in senior management or executive leadership roles.
- Proven ability to manage large teams and multiple departments or functions effectively.
- Strong expertise in operations management, execution, process improvement, and driving organizational performance.
- Demonstrated capability to lead through managers and enforce accountability.
- Extensive experience in performance management, follow-up, coaching, and team development.
- Experience supporting US-based or international operations is highly preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in English is essential.
- Bachelor’s degree is required; MBA, Master’s degree, or equivalent professional qualification is preferred.
