Under general direction, the Visa Officer works within established policies and procedures to undertake visa application assessments, conduct verification activities to ensure migration program integrity, and handle administrative tasks in a high-pressure environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform administrative tasks such as managing mailboxes, maintaining databases, responding to queries from the public and other Australian Government agencies, updating records, ensuring accuracy of identity information, and applying effective case management principles.
  • Manage, assess, and finalize visa applications in accordance with relevant Australian legislation and policy to make fair, reasonable, and lawful decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders within the Department of Home Affairs to support a global visa processing model.
  • Prepare written documentation for visa applicants, including visa decision records and client correspondence.
  • Apply and interpret relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to process visa applications in a high-pressure environment.
  • Investigate document integrity and escalate instances of potential fraud.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong decision-making skills, accurately assessing information and providing quality recommendations based on guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend Australian Government legislation, policy, and procedures and apply them correctly.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English (essential) and Urdu (highly desirable); proficiency in another language is advantageous.
  • Prioritization and organizational skills to manage workloads effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to build professional relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Willingness to learn new procedures, systems, and processes quickly.
  • Successful candidates must undergo pre-employment screening checks and declare any potential or real conflicts of interest.
