Biomedical Technician

The Biomedical Technician at Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper functioning and reliability of electro-medical equipment used in eye surgery and diagnostic procedures. This position requires rigorous maintenance, calibration, and repair work to prevent equipment downtime and to guarantee patient safety. The technician applies specialized knowledge of biomedical instrumentation and electronic systems to identify issues, troubleshoot malfunctions, and execute repairs, supporting the smooth operation of the hospital's medical facilities. This role demands a minimum of two years experience working in an electro-medical department within a recognized hospital or medical equipment firm, particularly with eye surgery and diagnostic tools. The technician must possess a Diploma of Associate Engineer in Electronics or Electro-Medical fields, with a strong proficiency in reading electronic circuits, mechanics, and documentation. Operating effectively without direct team supervision, the technician maintains workflow efficiency through independent diagnostic and repair activities, as well as accurate reporting and utilization of computer software tools.
Responsibilities

Perform routine preventive maintenance and testing on biomedical and electro-medical equipment to ensure optimal functionality and patient safety.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair faults in various medical devices, especially those used in eye surgery and diagnostic applications.
Calibrate equipment according to manufacturer standards and medical guidelines to maintain measurement accuracy and device performance.
Read and interpret electronic circuit diagrams and technical manuals to support effective problem-solving and repair execution.
Document all maintenance, repair activities, and equipment status reports accurately and prepare workshop documentation.
Utilize Microsoft Office and specialized computer software to record work details, create reports, and maintain an inventory of medical equipment.
Operate all electro-medical equipment functions proficiently, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and hospital protocols.
Collaborate with hospital clinical staff to understand equipment usage issues and respond promptly to urgent repair needs.
Follow regulatory standards and manufacturer's guidelines for disassembly, repair, and reassembly of biomedical equipment.
Maintain an organized workspace and manage tools and spare parts inventory effectively.
