The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), is a private, non-denominational, international development agency established in 1967. It seeks sustainable solutions to long-term problems of poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and ill-health with special emphasis on the needs of rural communities in mountainous and other resource poor regions, primarily in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Its main areas of focus are education, health, rural development, environment and strengthening civil society.

Aga Khan Foundation (Pakistan) [AKF (P)] is seeking a high calibre professional local consultants’ researcher (1 Male and 1 Female), to conduct a comprehensive qualitative study in one district of Gilgit Baltistan. This is a short-term consultancy for 30 days.

Consultancy Objectives

  • To conduct a comprehensive qualitative study on gender roles, norms, and inequalities within the target areas through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify key barriers faced by women and other gender groups in accessing resources, education, employment, and health services.
  • Provide actionable recommendations for integrating gender-sensitive  and gender transformative approaches into ongoing and future programs

Scope of work

  • The consultancy is designed for 30 days including fieldwork and report writing. The consultants will be required to work closely with AKRSP and AKF. The scope of work will include.
  • Review and implement designed qualitative data collection tools, including focus group discussions, and key informant interviews.
  • Conduct field visits and engage with stakeholders, including local communities, government representatives, NGOs, and gender experts.
  • Transcribe and analyze findings to highlight gender gaps in economic opportunities, health services, education, and social participation.
  • Develop a comprehensive report detailing findings, key barriers, and recommendations for promoting gender equity.

Educational Qualifications & Experience

Master’s Degree in gender studies, sociology, economics, anthropology, or related fields with extensive experience in data analysis, research design and data collection for qualitative studies. The consultant should have demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative research, especially in gender assessments and familiarity with the cultural context and experience in field-based research.

Languages Required

Excellent oral and written English and Urdu. Local language knowledge is desirable.

Payment Schedule

The payment will be made in installments and final payment will be made upon satisfactory report submission.
