We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain volume databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the security, reliability, and efficiency of the database systems for our clients while collaborating with development, IT, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the maintenance of production databases ensuring data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Installing, upgrading, and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS) in different environments.
  • Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
  • Manage database backups, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  • Controlling access permissions and privileges.
  • Collaborate and work with developers, IT, and business teams to identify and implement database solutions that meet business needs.
  • Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly.
  • Recommending and implementing emerging database technologies including prototyping.
  • Being available for an on-call support rota as needed, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in database administration or related fields.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Extensive experience with database technologies such as MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS and SSRS.
  • Strong command of SQL Query Language and SQL server tools.
  • Knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling.
  • Familiarity with database design, normalization, and optimization.
  • Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with developers, IT, and business teams
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including internal stakeholders, customers, and partners.
  • Ability to write and edit clear, concise, and professional documents.
  • Prior knowledge and experience in all these tools are not required, however, it’s critical that the person is a quick learner and can quickly adapt to new technologies: Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Slack or MS Teams, Github, Powershell.

Beneficial knowledge & skills:

  • Professional certification in database administration, such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
  • Experience with cloud-based database services, such as Amazon RDS or Microsoft Azure SQL Database
  • Experience AWS Glacier for data archival.
