Cloud Controlled Mobile Robot

Cloud Robotics is a modern approach to robotics based on cloud computing, cloud storage and other Internet Services that robots can benefit from to overcome some fundamental limitations in on-board computation and memory scalability. This new subfield of robotics is driven by the rapid progress of wireless communications and easy-to-access cloud infrastructure provided by large industries such as Google, Amazon and Microsoft etc. The goal of our project is to connect a mobile robot to a cloud server and use the processing power of that cloud server for controlling the robot. The main task of the robot is the surveillance of an unknown environment and make a 2D map of that environment. On-board computer of robot is only be used to control the motion of robot. Data from sensors mounted on the robot is sent in raw form to the cloud server where it is processed and analyze to form a 2D map of the environment under study. This way the on-board computing of the robot is reduced, which is a step towards making cost effective mobile robots that can be connected to cloud for performing different tasks
