ROLE OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE IN THE QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AT MUET

Organizational culture is directly concerned with effectiveness and performance of the organization. The stronger is organizational culture, the more effective is organization. The aim of this thesis/research is to know organizational culture and quality management, their interrelation, impact on continuous improvement and development of Mehran University of Engineering & Technology Jamshoro. In order to know the organizational culture of the Mehran University, this research was carried-out through Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI)/Questionnaire and identified that how Mehran university culture affects the perceptions, thoughts, and feelings of students of industrial engineering and management. In this thesis, results of the OCAI were examined that how students rated the current Mehran university culture, and what they would prefer it to be in five years. For that reason the survey was conducted in Industrial engineering and management department of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro. The questionnaire was filled by 47 students out of 52. The data was analyzed by Microsoft excel by using descriptive statistical tool and also on a website (OCAI Online) for free assessment of culture of overall organization by taking average values. The current dominant culture in the Mehran University of engineering and technology, is Hierarchy type of culture, and in coming five (5) years the dominant culture may be Clan culture. The difference in cultures is not greater than or equal to 10% therefore; no urgent action is required but, it does not mean that no action will be taken.
