Experimental and Numerical analysis of various NACA series airfoils

Thesis presents the validation of experimental and numerical simulation results of of 3 NACA series airfoils (NACA 4412, NACA 2412 and NACA 0012) by using ANSYS FLUENT and GAMBIT software’s, in order to simulate the effect of fluid flow and its characteristics like lift, drag and their coefficients on the airfoil. For the optimization of airfoil by CFD software, first step is to create the geometry of the airfoil and 2nd step is to mesh or meshing. The geometry we have created by using GAMBIT software which is sub software of CFD. This thesis includes the whole process of geometry creation and the procedure of the simulation is completely discussed and steps involved in the simulation such as model selection material selection, defining all boundary, monitors setting solution initialization and apply iteration to solve problems. Then we have found results in CFD post in order to visualizing results like pressure, velocity , lift , drag, coefficients and in the flow field and calculate some numerical values (such as lift, drag, moment, torque) of the airfoil. This will be help in selection of airfoils, designing of an airfoils, material selection and also stresses in the given structure. For optimization, we use 3 NACA series airfoils at 2 degree in order to see the effect of variation in the results for each specified airfoil and select suitable one for practical applications in future.
