As an immigration Caseworker/Paralegal at the firm, I was expected to manage my own workload which included providing accurate and practical advice to clients on all aspects of the UK immigration and nationality law with particular emphasis on advising commercial clients on the operation of the Points Based System. I was also expected to assist with the preparation of applications both within and outside the Points Based System including drafting Certificates of Sponsorship, Entry Clearance applications and Further Leave to Remain applications. My work also comprised of Posts overseas or Public Inquiry Offices in the UK, liaising with UKBA over the telephone and keeping clients informed of the progress of their application, keeping up to date on changes to UKBA policies and procedures and cascading knowledge as appropriate . I also look after file management and billing administration
Within Civil litigation (Housing Law Department), my role involved assisting my supervisor with paperwork and conduction of interim injunctions, Possession proceedings, rent/mortgage arrears, succession, Evictions and applications for re-entry, Disrepair, Homelessness – challenging local authority decisions on review and appeal, homeless advice, Challenges to the suitability of temporary accommodation and Unlawful evictions.
As a learning and perceptive solicitor, I try my best ensuring to work and behave in a professional manner and to the highest standards expected out of the profession, comply with procedures set out in the Office Procedures Manual (OPM), professional standards and any requirement set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), carry out duties given by my employers faithfully and diligently and follow all reasonable instructions, to participate in the growth and development of the firm, treat all information about the firm, its clients and business wholly confidential, attract additional business from new and existing clients, record all chargeable hours.
