The proposed project model aims to uplift the most vulnerable and at risk groups of society i.e. ultra-poor women, people with disabilities, older people, widowed families and unemployed youth affected by urban poverty through Poverty Graduation Approach. WASYLA introduces an integrated model to empower communities through a Poverty Graduation Approach integrated with Islamic Relief Pakistan (IRP)’s Child and Woman Development Programming (CWDP) in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Quetta. Building upon the community-led approach, IRP envisages to upscale and expand the already established program niches in the proposed areas under the umbrella program of CWDP. The model has been designed in the light of needs assessment and situation analysis conducted in the intended project locales and aims to contribute to economic and financial protection and social inclusion of these excluded groups of society while reducing the glaring impact of urban poverty during project life of three years.
Guided by the learnings derived from the deep-rooted ties of IRP with the urban communities of Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Quetta during last three decades, particularly knowledge acquired from the extensive experience of IRP’s CWDP and its graduation approach, WASYLA aims to address the challenges and top priority issues of the targeted communities. Earning decent livelihood without being skilled, literate or having any other support mechanism or protection is the most daunting challenge for the aforementioned families who are struggling to manage two meals a day in urban areas. Sending their children to school or affording other basic amenities of life are too far-fetched luxuries for these families.
This project (ccc) aims to contribute towards creating an enabling environment for the development of children of dhok hassu. An unplanned urban slum in Rawalpindi. Project focuses upon protection, inclusion and service delivery oriented social mobilization by improving livelihood opportunities, water and sanitation facilities with particular engagement of youth to ensure future of the area is in safe and socially aware generation.Dhok hassu is an urban slum of district Rawalpindi surrounded by peerwadai dhok mangtal and railway colony administratively divided into two union concil (5,6) the overall area is aproximately 1.46 square kilometer with an estimated population of 235,000 according to the census of 2017.
