enhancement of squalene Production from Thraustochytrid stain ATCC 26185

<p>Squalene (C30H50) is a Triterpenoid compound which is an unsaturated fat-soluble compound, it is important in the Skin Surface Lipid (SSL) film that protects the body from the external environment. Recently researchers are involved in production of this important compound from microbes as the other sources are non-renewable plus possess foulest effects on the environment. Thus, in our lab we are working on unicellular heterotrophic marine thraustochytrids for the production of Squalene which don’t possess any environmental hazard, moreover, we have isolated strain and identified their potential for squalene production, till yet highest yield achieved is 445mg/l. So, there is a need to enhance the production of squalene.</p> <p>Therefore, my research strongly focuses on squalene enhancement and identification of steps involved in its production.  two strategies are under consideration one is experimental and Insilco interaction of antioxidants i.e. (Melatonin, Mannitol, Ascorbic acid, vitamin B6, Vitamin H, α-tocopherol, and sesamol) with our strains and other is the construction of Genome-scale metabolic model (GSMM) for squalene production.</p>
