Internee Engineer
As a part of or curriculum as defined by our university, we must spend our semester break for internship. Paragon Constructors provided us with this opportunity. They deputed us at the site Grand mosque Bahria Town Karachi.
We observed and performed several things during our internship period. At arcade, we learnt many things about marble cladding, laying out beams, installing formwork, providing reinforcement in beams and their concreting.
At Parking we observed screeding, learned about checking the levels of flooring, how the slope is maintained for drainage, we also checked the levels of screeded floor in parking. We learned about the design, installation, maintenance and safe use of scaffolding. At university, several different types of construction works were being performed. We took active part in their execution. These works include marble cladding, backfilling and compaction, stone soiling, concrete pouring, plumbing works in mock up room, jumbolan installation and screeding.
At marble factory, we learned about managing the things, uses of different machines like their control, operations, maintenance and productivity. We learned several things on excel including how to make cutting detail sheets, demand sheets and how to maintain the record of the production in excel.
In the last week site visit to RCS and concrete batching plant was arranged which was quite informative and beneficial. The site in charge provided a brief description on the mix design, production, plant operation, maintenance and cost of concrete. He also described the piling operations going on at the RCS site.
