Smart Project Management Practices for the Local Construction Industry

Over the past few decades, the completion time of construction projects has reduced significantly while the complexity of projects has increased. As it became more and more difficult to manage projects efficiently, many tools and techniques were developed globally to increase the effectiveness of the project management approach in the construction industry. However, the construction industry in most of the developing countries still suffers from the lack of focus on project management practices and their efficiency. With the help of recent research and development in the field of construction project management, a smart assessment tool was developed for the assessment of project management practices of local construction organizations. The assessment tool was based on internationally developed tools and techniques. A case study approach was used to measure the relative smartness of the project management approach of local construction organizations using the assessment tool. The tool can also be used to identify and recommend practices that a construction organization lacks in their project management approach. The findings of the case study project revealed that local construction organizations lack good management practices in many areas. Moreover, it was evident that the assessment tool can be developed further with more research in this regard.
