I come from a rural background having brought up in the (most) secluded valley, Sermik, Baltistan, Gilgit Baltistan. I completed my intermediate level education in Baltistan before attaining bachelors and masters in Mass-communication from AIOU Islamabad. I am Currently Working as Key-Expert in Karakoram Advisory and Consultancy Gilgit Baltistan Skardu. I have worked with various development organizations on various positions. I have worked with AKRSP, PRCS , CHIP, CBIDN and GBRSP.
In all these organizations the major job responsibilities were: Coordination with provincial line departments as well as district government. Coordinating and leading implementation of the project activities, monitoring and evaluating project interventions as per LFA and PoA (plan of action). Leading provincial level planning process for the project and ensuring its implementation in coordination with grass-route level community organizations. Developing capacity of the Village Based Organizations (VBOs), Cluster Organizations, Development Forums, local NGOs and other Civil Society Organizations through providing resources and training. Facilitating project team in smooth implementation of the project activities and achieving qualitative and quantitative indicators. Coordination with potential stakeholders for resource mobilization for components. Developing activity reports (monthly, quarterly and annually), M&E reports and project presentations in coordination with Provincial Program Officer and Project Manager. Promoting gender equity and women empowerment and designing and implementation of disable friendly projects. In a project funded by IFAD and AICS (INGOs) to GBRSP, here as a Community Development Officer in Baltistan, my primary responsibilities include building the capacity of agriculture cooperative societies and mobilizing farmer communities to optimize land use for productivity and profitability. I work on developing new agricultural land and fostering collective marketing of agricultural produce. I also emphasize raising awareness about gender equality and promoting gender-responsive practices within village agriculture cooperative societies.
My role involves ensuring that women workers in agriculture share responsibilities equitably, earn fair livelihoods, and actively participate in decision-making processes. To achieve this, I have mobilized women to form their own cooperative societies, integrating them into leadership positions such as boards of directors and senior management roles within Village Agriculture Cooperatives (VACs). Additionally, I prioritize the inclusion of women entrepreneurs by facilitating project support, disbursing microcredit schemes, and implementing internal loaning and repayment systems.
As the Project Focal Person for a project co-funded by the EU and implemented by AKRSP in Baltistan, I worked closely with 21 Local Support Organizations (LSOs) and 5 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The project aimed to revitalize civil society organizations, including LSOs and Village Women Organizations (VWOs), while promoting the active involvement of young men and women in decision-making processes. Key interventions included providing technical skills training for youth, facilitating youth forums, and designing gender-responsive initiatives at the grassroots level. Additionally, the project addressed the economic challenges faced by young entrepreneurs as a result of COVID-19.
PRCS Gilgit Baltistan’s provincial headquarter is located at Gilgit, while it has its district branches in Skardu and Astore. In Skardu PRCS has been functional since 2006 as it started initially as a disaster response unit and later on it became a district branch. PRCS Skardu has been facilitating the vulnerable communities of Baltistan during emergency situations. PRCS GB is one of the leading emergency response and rehabilitation society which has been serving the community during natural and man-made disasters at a remarkably larger scale. PRCS district Branch Skardu has been facilitating all the districts in Baltistan region which comprises on 4 districts.
In collaboration and financial support by German Red Cross (GRC), the PRCS Skardu Branch is implementing on a project disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for mitigating disaster risks and it is proposed to be implemented in 10 villages of district Shigar Balitstan. The main objective of the project is to contribute to enhanced resilience of the communities in Gilgit-Baltistan region by reducing the impacts of Climate Change and recurring disasters. The project interventions are designed to enhance resilience of the most vulnerable communities in 10 villages of Tehsil Shigar, District Skardu, increasing capacity to adapt to future climate challenges, had mobilized structures at the community and district levels to prepare for, withstand, respond and recover from disasters. In this regard Local Support Organizations (LSOs), 10 village organizations and 10 Women Organizations are formed/restructured. The community coaches were trained on Basic First Aid. In future, Community Disaster Response Teams (CDRTs) (90 volunteers) will be formed, trained and equipped with Emergency Response Kits. Community Action Plans will be developed and jointly be implemented by LSOs/VOs and Project team. Consequently, the target beneficiaries will be aware of climate related hazards.
