We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Conductive Elastomer Polymer Engineer/Material Scientist to join our team in developing next-generation wearable technology. This role involves designing, formulating, and testing flexible, biocompatible, and conductive materials for use in cutting-edge consumer electronics. You will work closely with engineers, product designers, and external manufacturers to bring our proprietary solutions to market. This is a virtual/remote job that requires hands-on work based in your location.

Responsibilities

Material Development:

  • Develop and optimize conductive elastomers with a focus on balancing electrical conductivity, flexibility, and biocompatibility.
  • Incorporate conductive fillers (e.g., silver-coated copper, carbon black, MWCNTs) into elastomeric bases while ensuring consistent material properties.

Testing and Characterization:

  • Perform electrical, mechanical, and thermal testing of materials to ensure compliance with product specifications (e.g., resistance, hardness, and durability).
  • Analyze and improve the stability of material conductivity under variable pressure and environmental conditions.

Collaboration:

  • Work with product teams to integrate materials into functional prototypes and ensure compatibility with design and manufacturing requirements.
  • Support scale-up processes with manufacturing partners to transition materials from R&D to production.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure all materials meet regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 10993 for biocompatibility).
  • Maintain detailed records of formulations, test results, and design iterations.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Suggested but not required: Master’s or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields.
  • Extensive industry experience may substitute for advanced degrees.

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of elastomeric materials (e.g., silicone rubber, TPEs) and their chemical/physical properties.
  • Proven experience with conductive fillers (e.g., silver flakes, carbon nanotubes, graphene) in elastomer formulations.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical conductivity testing, rheology, and material characterization (e.g., SEM, FTIR, DSC, or TGA).
  • Familiarity with Shore A hardness measurements and optimizing biocompatible materials.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in developing conductive polymers, preferably for wearable or medical devices.
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams on product development.

Language and Communication:

  • Proficient in English (written and spoken), with the ability to prepare technical documentation and communicate complex ideas clearly.

Other Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate within constrained requirements.
  • Experience working within ISO or regulatory-compliant frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Project management and vendor collaboration experience is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with biocompatible coatings (e.g., PEDOT:PSS) and surface engineering.
  • Experience in scaling formulations for mass production.
  • Knowledge of EEG electrode applications or wearable technology is a significant advantage.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on breakthrough technologies at the intersection of material science and wearable electronics.
  • A collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Competitive compensation package.
