Arduino Based Home Automation System using GSM Technology

This project presents the development and implementation of a remote mobile host controller and several client modules (home appliances). The client modules communicate with the host controller through a wireless device such as a Bluetooth or Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), based on control system for electrical applications. Here HC-06 Bluetooth module and 8-bit microcontroller Arduino ATmega 2560 is used for switching. Home automation is not a new thing but the advanced automation system in nowadays require a big and expensive infrastructure. To present the overall design of Home Automation System (HAS) with low cost and wireless remote control using GSM technology, GSM module is used for receiving short message service (SMS) from user’s mobile phone that automatically enable the controller to take further action like switching ON and OFF electrical applications such as fan, air- conditioner, light etc. The system was integrated with microcontroller and GSM network interface using Arduino software, is utilized to accomplish the integration. The system is activated when user sends the SMS to the controller at home (regarded as Smart Home). Upon receiving the SMS command, the microcontroller unit then automatically controls the electrical applications by switching ON or OFF the device according to the user’s order. In other word, it reads message from the mobile phone and respond to control the devices according to the received message.
