Market Assessment for Lighting Sector in Pakistan.
Global Environment Facility (GEF) has undertaken a project in Pakistan to bring about mitigation in the emissions of Green House Gases (GHG) to help stem the rapid climate changes. The major area of concern identified is the burning of fossil fuels, bulk of which is burnt for the sake of power generation, which takes up more than 52% of the fossil fuel consumption alone.
In order to address this situation, GE/ECF/NEECA has designed a project to help reduce these GHG emissions by targeting the lighting segment, which takes up more than 15% of the total electricity produced. The project “Delivering the Transition to Energy Efficient Lighting in Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Outdoor Sectors in Pakistan” is to be implemented under the supervision of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for which National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (ECF/NEECA) is the executing agency, thus helping the global community in reducing the climate change.
For this purpose, a study “ CONDUCTING MARKET ASSESSMENT FOR LIGHTING SECTOR IN
PAKISTAN” is has been done which, will provide basis for further improvements in programme
design, criteria and execution. For better allocation of resources, this study has been allowed ECF/NEECA to get a sense of the effective utilization of the resources available to it through the GEF assistance by setting it’s priorities in the correct alignment. To conduct this activity, a In Consult Consultancy firm with expertise in Survey, Impact Assessment and Evaluation, has been taken on board.
The consultant (individual/Firm) analyzed the existing and potential demand of the specific sector viz‐a‐viz high end national and international markets, identify the sub products, processes, market segments, technologies etc., and develop proposals, PC‐1s for catering medium to long term requirements. The study will facilitate in addressing the need of technology advancement in this sector. This will facilitate this sector in entering high value markets.
